Vintage Stock Theatre Presentation, QUARANTINE
"Quarantine" written by Susan M. Flemming and Marni Hunt-Stephens, directed by Susan M. Flemming Called the "strangling angel" diphtheria was one of the leading causes of death in children in the 1920s. When a young girl in a small rural community is stricken with the disease and quarantined, the community reacts; exposing their fear, their ignorance and in some cases compassion. "From my window I can see them going to school in the morning. I hear them laughing and carrying on and yelling at Evelyn because she’s so slow. Or Gladys teasing Lester because he’s being foolish. I guess I did that too, before.... laughed and carried on... They were looking up at the window. They could see me watching them. I was going to wave when I saw Gladys point and they all started laughing, making fun. They were pretending to hold their breath when they went by.... I guess they think if they breathe the air around the house, they’ll get sick too." ...from Quarantine September 23, 24, 30 and October 1, 8:00 pm Cumberland Heritage Village Museum 2940 Old Montreal Road Individual Tickets are $15 (purchase online at www.vintagestock.on.ca) Group Tickets (more than 10 tickets) $12 (Not available online) Vintage Stock Member Advantage: $12 (Not available online) Tickets available online or at the door on the night of a performance. See His Story Come to Life at the Shenkman Arts Centre Picture of Rockliffe St. Patrick Fellowes
He was barely out of his teens when he abandoned his hometown of Ottawa for an older woman… and the bright lights of Broadway. In his first play he shared the stage with Ethel Barrymore. He became a household name with his first silent movie in 1915 and went on to make movies with Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. By 1935 his star had faded into obscurity and he was reduced to making uncredited appearances in B westerns and living in a rooming house in downtown Los Angeles. "A Long Way from Home" looks at the forgotten Rockliffe “St. Patrick” Fellowes during his last years in Hollywood.
