April 16, 2008:

Hi Al:

My gggrandfather Timothy Tierney b 1799 Ireland married Ellen Waters / Watters b 1801
in Cashel, County Tipperary, IRE. They had 2m and 4f. Timothy was deported to Australia
in 1835.

Ellen and the children came to Nepean around 1835.

I read on the website that she was a widow. Probably just a good story.
Timothy was paroled in Australia in 1853. We don't know anymore about him but we have
some convict papers from Australia that could lead to info.
Ellen came to Nepean with:
Julia b 1824 who married Thomas Fullan and moved to Iowa, USA.
Sarah ?
William b 1827 who married Catherine Ryan in Ogdensburg, NY, USA
Ellen ?
John b 1833 m Bridget Nash (my ggrandfather) Ellen lived with him and family.
Mary b 1834 m John Brophy
Website reported that three children stayed in Nepean (Mary, John and Julia
for a while before Iowa) and three went to the states( probably Ellen and
Sarah and William)
Surnames in this new info I received are: Fullan, Ryan, Nash, Brophy, McKenna,
Watters, Travers, Newman, McClevey, Griffin, Watt, Houlihan, Cayes, Madden,
Brophy, LaPoint / Lapointe (adopted by John Tierney), Brennan, and many more.

Pardon of Timothy Tierney in New South Wales

December 27, 2008: I have just discovered the website and am looking for information about my Grandmother. You made referrence to her on your posting on (above). My grandmother was born May Lapointe about 1884. She was adopted by John Tierney and Bridget Nash. She married Daniel James McNeely on June 14th 1910 at the age of 26 years. She had a total of 12 children but only six survived. One of them was my mother. May Lapointe / Tierney / McNeely died in 1939. I have a copy of her Wedding picture and a picture of her not long before her death. If you have any information about the her branch of the Lapointe family that you are willing to share I would be most grateful. I do know that the McNeelys lived for a short time in the USA (Ogdensburg and Detroit) and then returned to Ottawa. When they came back they had Mae with them. On the marraige register for Mae and Daniel James McNeely, John Tierney and Bridget Nash are listed as foster parents. I have attached the wedding picture of Mae and Daniel James. You can share this on the web as well. I really appreciated being able to download the pictures of the McNeely sisters (my great aunts) and John McNeely (my great, great Grandfather). Many thanks and Merry Christmas. ... Bonnie Clark Baptism of Daniel James McNeely Marriage of Daniel McNeely and May Lapointe Marriage of Daniel James McNeely and May Lapointe Tierney
November 29, 2010:
This John Joseph Tierney who married Katherine Mary Waters (daughter of Martin P. Waters and Anne O'Grady) on Jan 8 1902 at Fallowfield, was a son of John Tierney (born Ireland in 1833) and Bridget Nash. This John Joseph Tierney was born Oct 23, 1868 and died Oct 8 1927. His grandparents were Timothy Tierney (1799 - 1872) and Ellen Waters (1805 - 1888). Timothy was sent to Australia as a convict but was eventually pardoned - he never lived in Canada as far as I can tell, just wife Ellen and children did. ...
