Descendants of Jonas Pettapiece
JONAS2 PETTAPIECE (PETTAPIECE1) was born Abt. 1799 in Sligo, and died 8 February 1872 in Marlborough Twp1. He married ANN FERGUSON. She was born Abt. 1813 in Lough Eske, Ireland2, and died 22 October 1881. JONAS/ JONES/ JAMES; Jones Pettapiece and Ann Ferguson farmed in the Township of North Gower, Carleton Co., Ont. There were twelve daughters and five sons in this family. He was buried in Union Cemetery in North Gower. His tombstone is broken and shows no first name and the date of death 1872 at 71 years corresponds with other records for him, the tombstone also has "a native of Co Sligo" carved on it. This is a very old cemetery and the broken tombstones were placed in a gravel base to try to preserve them. The church records for Jonas states 64 years of age. Jones purchased 50 acres of N1/2 of Lot 11, Conc. 4, N.G. on March , 1836, and the E 1/2 of Lot 11 March 21, 1840 - 100 acres. The baptisms for Thomas, Anthony, Jones and Margaret are recorded in Kemptville Anglican Church and the others are in Richmond. Children of JONES PETTAPIECE and ANN FERGUSON are: i. He must have died young as he is not shown in 1851 census. ix. ELIZABETH PETTAPIECE, b. 4 July 1843; d. 1923. m. 1865 to JAMES BREW b. 1847 d.1923. x. ESTHER PETTAPIECE, b. 4 July 1843. She was a twin of Elizabeth. and must have died young as she was not in 1861 census. xi.
