Patrick MONAGHAN / MONAHAN and Mary BURNS
Ireland to Fallowfield, Ontario, Canada

 October 27, 2002: (picture)

Patrick MONAGHAN came from County Leitrim, Ireland. He married Mary BURNS in 1831 at Notre Dame Church in Bytown. There is a written history of this family at the Nepean Museum. The map below, scanned by Evan Rooney, shows the location of some of the Monaghan farms in the Fallowfield area of Nepean in 1879. A large stone house, built by Edward Monahan, still stands on the property (above picture). There is a picture (I believe it's in Bruce Elliott's book, Nepean: The City Beyond) which shows men in the early 1900's, doing their statutory labour on the section of Fallowfield Road, in front of this house. Also shown is the original 200 acre homestead of the TIERNEY family and some ROONEY farms.
