Michael John O'NEILL and Elizabeth SMITH
August 10, 2002:
You may be able to help me. I trying poorly at retracing my family
tree. I have discovered my Great Grand Father was not born in Ireland as
I was lead to believe but born in Montreal around 1829-1831 and moved
here with his parents ( Michael John O'Neill and Elizabeth Smith both
born in Ireland ).
Michael ONeill Jr died on November11, 1909 and is buried in our
family plot X1799 at Notre Dame Cementary. The records in Notre Dame are
poor since he wasn't listed on our family cards but in the register and
we need to know the date of his death to verify him.
The 1851 Nepean Census my Great Great Grand Mother is a widow
C-11716 microfilm. I have viewed the vitals records of Ontario and don't
see and death records for my Great Great Grand Father Michael John
Senior nor my GGGrand Mother Elizabeth.
Im hoping you can refer me to where I should look.

Thanks for letting me know about the missing records for Notre Dame. I wasn't aware
There is a 13 volume set of Notre Dame death records in the 3rd floor Reading Room

If it is an inventory of tombstones, then it may include some burials for the

Here are some updates on my quest;
Michael John O'Neill Sr died in Nepean in 1851 at the age of 72 and
is noted on the far right column of the 1851 Census. His funeral service
was February 5, 1851 at Notre Dame Basilica. His wife Elizabeth Smith
died October 21st 1875 at the age of 77 and the funeral service was at
St.Patricks Church on Kent St.
Thanks for finding me my Great Uncle Edward I will attach a list of the
ONeill Family tree that I have so far discovered. I have email Bruce Elliott
who writes about my great great grand father Michael J on pages 20-22. I have
also spoken to the guys in the Ottawa Room at the public library and have
located the family farm which is on the corner of Prince of Wales Drive and
Fallowfield Rd. There my great grand father raised his 8 children 4 boys and 4
girls with his wife Catherine Welch / Walsh.

Hello Tom and Al,
I've been searching for information about my grandparents and found your
website. My grandmother was Catherine O'Neil who was married to Joseph
Ernest Gadbois (mentioned above). I know very little about the O'Neill
side of the family and would love to know more.
