Minmore, County Wicklow, Ireland to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Trip to Ireland by Anne Burgess, September 2010
October 22, 2010:
For several years, Anne Burgess has been working on an intensive research project and has written a paper called
A Story of Emigration: Southwest County Wicklow, Ireland, to Ontario, Canada, 1847-1855
She is back in Canada again after a trip to County Wicklow (and other Irish counties). One of her stops on her trip
was in Minmore. Here are some photos from there.
Hi again, Al:
We stayed in Wicklow at Minmore Mews, which is at Minmore near Shillelagh, County Wicklow, Ireland, (photos attached).
Our most genial landlord, John Haydon, told us that he had farmed here for 25 years before moving into tourism at
retirement age, and has never regretted that. These stone buildings are from pre-Famine times, fitted up inside
with all you could wish for in the modern line.
These two families below came from Minmore to Bytown as part of the clearance of the Fitzwilliam Estate:
Balance, Mary and Elizabeth, Minmore to Bytown
Brown, Laurence and Cecilia, Minmore to Bytown.
