William KELLY and Margaret GUILFOYLE / KILFOIL
Lot 17, Concession 1, (River Road), Osgoode Township in 1879
from Powerstown, County Kilkenny, Ireland to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
ML# 268 on the McCabe List
Mr. Lorne Kelly, prior owner of Kelly Funeral Homes in Ottawa, has written a book
called "The William Kelly Story". It is a very interesting story of Mr. Kelly's search
to find information about his Great-Great Grandfather who came from Powerstown,
County Kilkenny, Ireland.
It is also a good reference for the procedures to follow in searching for your family's
Irish Catholic origins.
William Kelly's wife was Margaret Kilfoil.

February 18, 2009:
Thank you for responding Mr. Lewis and I would be pleased to have my email address added to
the web site and the list of researchers on Samuel Bingham. I have a volume full of information
on the Binghams. Mayor Bingham was my great, great, great uncle and throughout the years,
records have been kept, by the family, on him and other Bingham ancestors. I would be more
than happy to share what I have.
I was then surprised and thrilled to find information the other side of the family tree,
the Herbert, Nash, Daley, Kelly, Kehoe, McEvoy connections in Osgoode Township. I am now
looking for information on the Reardon family. My great grandmother was Margaret Reardon Kelly,
married to William Kelly, who they raised a family of 8 in Manotick, I believe. If anyone was
has information on her or the Reardon family, I would really appreciate hearing from you.
Margaret Reardon's husband was William Kelly of the River Road Kellys, born 1862. I recently
contacted Lorne Kelly, my mother's second cousin, and he gave me a copy of his book about
his search for William Kelly from County Kilkenny. The book is a very interesting account of
his travels and how he was able to gain information on William.
Thank you once again and I look forward to hearing from you.

Along the Rideau Canal system today, south of Manotick, is a place called Kelly's Landing. It is across the River Road from Saint Bridgid's Church.
Next door, on the waterfront, is St. Bridget's Pioneer Cemetery where many Kellys are buried, including William Kelly who was working
on the Rideau Canal here in 1829.
