September 1, 2001 Glen: (if I may) Thanks for the great story of Joseph Fortune and Mary Storey. I've created a new page at for them and have added your e-mail address and also links to the Richmond and Goulbourn pages on it. They're also on my main page in the blue table for pioneers in the Nepean / Richmond areas (see link below). In the table, a few rows above Joseph Fortune is a Johanna Fortune, b. 1826, married to Patrick Byrne at Fallowfield. Patrick came from County Wexford and farmed just east of the village of Richmond. I'm not sure if Johanna is one of yours. There were several Byrne families there, most of them Catholic, but one family was Protestant - the family of Richard Byrnes / Burns if memory serves me correctly. Thanks again! ... Al

The present village of Point Fortune is named for this family. More details in The Macdonnell - Williamson House, A National Historic Site by Valerie Verity, 1998, ISBN 0-9695824-2-0. ... Al
