DOYLE Pioneers in Osgoode Township and
DOYLE Taxpayers in Osgoode Township, 1855 - 1883

May 3, 2007:

Thought this may be of interest to the Doyle researchers. It is a
transcript of the tax rolls for the years listed showing places of residence.

Note: Jim sent in the following table in a nicely formatted table.
As usual, I've had trouble maintaining the table format for the web site.

If you have ancestors who were in Osgoode Township, you are lucky. The
Osgoode Township Historical Society and Museum is one of the best in Ottawa.

Most of these Doyle families came from County Wexford in Ireland.
My GGGrandmother who died in 1843 was Margaret Doyle. Doyle Road south
of Manotick was home to many of the early Doyles. I believe that there is
a "Brian Doyle Hill" on Bank Street, just north of South Gloucester.
Notice that most of the taxes were assessed in English Pounds until about
1860, thereafter in dollars. Most wills prior to 1860 used Pounds rather
than dollars as the unit of currency.
