James BUCKLES and Mary FITZPATRICK
Osgoode Township in the 1800's

June 15, 2002:
I have been trying to track down 5 missing Fitzpatrick children, that were born
between 1805 to 1819. They were children of Sergeant William Fitzpatrick 99th Regiment
of Foot and his wife Mary Ann Semans. William and his family came to Richmond/Goulbourn,
after the 99th Regiment was disbanded in 1818, and they show up in the 1820 - 1822 Goulbourn
Census as Follows: William Firzpatrick, 1 wife, 2 sons and 4 daughters. There is a mistake
in the 1821 Goulbourn Census, indicating that William is a Fitzgerald, but is correct is
the 1820 and 1822 Census. William had a son born in 1820 called William Debursey Fitzpatrick
and in 1823 Michael Debursey Fitzpatrick.

William was granted land in Goulbourn for his military service and is listed in the
Military Land Grant Register. We still have five missing children of William and Mary Ann.
One Male and four females, one we believed to be Margaret and another could be the above
Mary Fitzpatrick, who married James Buckles. The Fitzpatricks, 2 sons William and Michael
and their mother Mary Ann moved from Richmond/Goulbourn to the North Wakefield area between
1842 and 1851, as they show up in the Wakefield census in 1851. The Seargeant William
Fitzpatrick does not show up in the Wakefield census for 1851, it is assumed that he passed
away between 1838 and 1845, and is buried ?????. There are some Fitzpatrick's in the Russell
area, which might fit in to our William's family but not sure.

My wife is a Fitzpatrick from the Low, Quebec area, and the Sergeant William Fitzpatrick and
Mary Ann Semans are her great-great grandparents. Mary Ann and her sons and their wives are
buried in the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Lascelles, Quebec. By the way the two Fitzpatrick
brothers, William Debursey and Michael Debursey, married Colbert sisters, Maria and Ellen,
who are directly related to the John and William Colbert who came over with their families
with the 1818 Talbot party and settled in the Goulbourn area, and are listed in the 1820-1822
Goulbourn census.

Any info that you could pass on to me concerning the James Buckles and Mary Fitzpatrick, or
another family contact would be greatly appreciated.

Ken:
The info above regarding James Buckles and Mary Fitzpatrick is a very small part of a large
type-written document (c. 40 pages) which someone sent me a couple of years ago. The person
who sent it was researching a Tobin Family who are mentioned in the document. I believe the
researcher was a Peter Tobin from Ottawa.
There were many surnames in the document -- both Catholic and Protestant. Some of the names
were GAFFNEY and MILLAR (Ian Millar, as in "Big Ben").
I'm trying to find this document in my filing system, but so far no luck.
If it doesn't appear, you might try phoning the Peter Tobins in Ottawa.
